• An Important Announcement From Tauck

    #1 Posted : Monday, February 25, 2019 10:59:08 AM

Hi Everybody, We’re excited to announce that we’re in the process of building a new travel forum. Our team here has taken in your feedback about our current forums and have used it as a stepping-stone as we transition to a new and updated travel forum. These new travel forums will be much easier to navigate and be easier in finding, creating and joining conversations and will offer you a better experience overall. We can’t wait to be able to share this experience with you in the near future. As we migrate to the new forum, we’re making our current travel forums read-only, meaning that the current forums are still accessible, however, you will not be able to create or respond to postings. Thank you for sharing your stories, creating insightful dialogue and helping build a vibrant travel community. We truly could not have done it without you. We’ll let you know when the new travel forums are ready. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email social@tauck.com Happy Travels! -The Tauck Team

My wife (Lisa) and I (Fred) have arranged for private tours at the beginning and end of the trip. We'd love to have one or two other couples or singles join us (total of four extra people for each tour). In both cases we have booked our tours through ToursbyLocals (toursnylocals.com). Here is some information: (1) On June 5 we have booked a 5-hour Jewish Heritage tour with the tour guide Olga G. We will visit the Synagogue and Holocaust museum, other sites in town, and then drive to Ponary (Paneriai), the site of the tragic mass murder. The total cost is $250 and can be shared equally by those participating. We will return to our hotel before we need to meet the whole group for dinner. (2) On June 18, we have booked a 7-8 hour tour called "Traditional Russian crafts of the Moscow region. Fedoskino Lacquer Miniature Painting & Zhostovo trays." The tour is given by guide Irina C. We will drive to Fedoskino village, famous for lacquer miniature paintings and lacquer boxes made of papier-mache, and visit that factory and do several other things. You can read more about the tour on the ToursbyLocals website under the guide's name. The total cost of the tour is $350, and it can be shared equally among all those participating. (Beyond my wife and me, additional people will be charged admission to the museums and factories that are visited.)

Hi We too are going to Russia but not on your date. Do you have an email address for Olga G.? This add on sounds great. Thank you MG

To Alan S However, we are leaving Capetown at 11:00 pm flight! When will you be in Capetown? We will be there July30-August 2 AFTER our Great Migration trip to Tanzania and Kenya. Our time there will be on our own, since it will be an extension of our Tauck trip. We arranged for a private guide for 3 days with some touring on our last day (maybe wine country) and then drop off at the airport with dinner at a good restaurant or airport restaurant before our 11 PM flight.

I saw The Great Land through London’s stories of survival in the wilderness, of rugged, hearty men on the trail in the frontier, trying to survive against the odds in battle with the harsh forces of nature, often encountering bizarre circumstances that could only happen in Alaska.

To me the word “Danube” always sets off the soundtrack of The Blue Danube waltz by Johann Strauss in my head. I can’t see that word without hearing a little blurb of that soaring melody and the exuberant, widely swinging waltz beat that Strauss popularized. That music almost can’t fail to lift your mood.
